Cart Decode is built on open, publicly available data. We believe consumer transparency should be grounded in verifiable sources — not proprietary black boxes. This page identifies the open data sources that power Cart Decode and fulfills our attribution obligations under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.

Open Database License (ODbL) Sources

The following databases are licensed under the Open Database License 1.0. Use of this data is subject to the ODbL share-alike terms. Cart Decode's use of these sources does not imply endorsement by their maintainers.

Open Food Facts

  • Source: world.openfoodfacts.org
  • License: ODbL 1.0
  • Contents: Approximately 3 million food products including ingredients, nutrition data, Nutri-Score, Eco-Score, packaging, and product images
  • Contributors: Open Food Facts community

Open Beauty Facts

  • Source: world.openbeautyfacts.org
  • License: ODbL 1.0
  • Contents: Cosmetics and personal care products including INCI ingredient listings
  • Contributors: Open Beauty Facts community

Open Food Facts Ingredient Taxonomy

  • Source: world.openfoodfacts.org
  • License: ODbL 1.0
  • Contents: Ingredient synonym and classification taxonomy used for ingredient matching and plain-language translation

U.S. Government & Scientific Data

Cart Decode also uses publicly available data from U.S. federal agencies (public domain) and international scientific and regulatory bodies to power product safety, nutrition, and chemical safety features.

ODbL Compliance Notice

Cart Decode's use of Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and the Open Food Facts Ingredient Taxonomy is governed by the Open Database License 1.0. Under the ODbL:

  • The underlying data remains open and freely available
  • Any public use of derivative databases must also be released under the ODbL
  • Cart Decode's proprietary software, algorithms, and non-derivative data are not subject to ODbL share-alike obligations
